I hope you’re reading this with softer eyes,
And shoulders dropped from years of holding weight.
I wonder if you still look at the skies
When things around you start to complicate.
Right now, I’m trying hard to build the bridge
That leads you safely to that distant ridge.
I hope you haven't lost the sudden thrill
Of little things, like coffee in the cold,
Or finding quiet on a windy hill,
Or letting new adventures make you bold.
I'm leaving breadcrumbs in the choices made
So you won't have to wander in the shade.
Do you still keep the late hours of the night,
Or have you learned to let the morning win?
I hope you've made your peace with losing fights,
And found the grace to let forgiveness in.
The version of me typing out these lines
Is hoping that your inner weather shines.
I know you bear the scars of what we fought,
The doubts I carry with me every day.
But tell me that the lessons we were taught
Have helped to clear the debris from the way.
I want to think you've learned to stand your ground,
While keeping your horizons softly bound.
So take a breath and know I did my best
With all the tools and time I had to give.
I put the hardest worries in their chest
So you could have the open space to live.
I am the past, but you are what is true:
The masterpiece I painted just for you.
