Unravelling realism

Image for Unravelling realism

They shame you
For what you contain
They call it awful
To show what you truly posses
In a world full of chaos
The true you remain unique
If you speak back thy dead
The so-called ones will spit on your phase
The rien of sin will defeat blaze
You say truth, they say gold
But there isn’t no beggar
They dare to care after all
When you wise up, you realise
You have been dragged through lies
But time consumes and you will rot
Before protest your eyes will close
You skin will burn with regret turning into retreat
The sad prophesy of life still remains

Poem Analysis

This analysis is provided as optional literary feedback. Community voting remains the primary ranking method.

Analysis Available

This poem explores themes of individuality, societal judgment, and the inevitability of time and regret. It has a raw, unpolished character, with moments of striking imagery that suggest potential for deeper resonance. While the poem struggles with coherence and consistency, it offers a poignant reflection on the human condition.

Strengths

  • The poem's exploration of individuality in lines like 'The true you remain unique' provides a compelling theme.
  • The phrase 'You have been dragged through lies' powerfully conveys a sense of betrayal and realization.
  • The imagery of 'Your skin will burn with regret turning into retreat' is vivid and evocative, suggesting deep emotional turmoil.

Areas for Improvement

  • The poem suffers from grammatical inconsistencies, such as 'there isn’t no beggar,' which detracts from its clarity.
  • The line 'The rien of sin will defeat blaze' is confusing and lacks clear meaning, weakening the poem's impact.

Imagery

The poem employs stark imagery, particularly in its depiction of regret and realization. The line 'Your skin will burn with regret turning into retreat' uses visceral language to evoke a sense of physical and emotional pain. However, other images, such as 'The rien of sin will defeat blaze,' are less effective due to their obscurity, which can confuse rather than clarify the poem's themes.

Structure

The poem lacks a consistent structure, with irregular line lengths and no discernible rhyme scheme, which can disrupt the reading flow. This lack of formal structure might be intended to reflect the chaos mentioned in the poem, but it also risks appearing unintentional. The absence of stanza breaks can make the poem feel dense and unorganized.

Language & Craft

The diction is a mix of archaic ('thy dead') and contemporary language, creating an inconsistent tone. The poem occasionally uses alliteration, as in 'speak back thy dead,' but this is not sustained throughout. The voice is earnest, yet the inconsistent language choices can detract from its authority.

Emotional Impact

The poem attempts to evoke a sense of existential despair and the struggle for authenticity. While certain lines succeed in conveying this, the overall emotional impact is weakened by unclear phrasing and structural issues. The poem's potential to move the reader is evident but not fully realized due to these inconsistencies.
