What is poetry?

This flow of reason resonates with ideals that harmonize across all fields.

A chime, a rhyme, the rhythm called creed indeed.
The words are heard in minds eye
for friends of mine or thine
given the gift, the grace, the embrace
enveloped within the field,
a guide, a guild of choice and reason,
for how you stand and how you speak
travel further than feelings felt by feet,
but more in ears and cones of eyes
guts and minds, third eye divine!
What you see is not always what you think,
in your subconscious you do not sink,
but rather feel the flow, the tide, the Tao, tik tok that's time.
These words and moments, taken to speak
felt by listeners attention complete,
and not at odds with the need to compete,
but rather relaxed and facing the facts.
Language. Communication. The need to be seen.
Not found in code or glaring screen,
but face to face, you and I
written words and spoken rhymes.

Poem Analysis

This analysis is provided as optional literary feedback. Community voting remains the primary ranking method.

Analysis Available

The poem explores the theme of communication and understanding, using a blend of abstract concepts and tangible imagery to convey its message. Its artistic value lies in its attempt to harmonize reason and emotion, though it occasionally struggles with clarity and cohesion.

Strengths

  • The poem effectively uses a rhythmic structure to enhance its thematic exploration, as seen in 'A chime, a rhyme, the rhythm called creed indeed.'
  • The poem's exploration of perception versus reality is compelling, particularly in 'What you see is not always what you think.'
  • The inclusion of philosophical references such as 'the Tao' adds depth to the poem's exploration of time and consciousness.

Areas for Improvement

  • The poem's abstract language can be confusing, particularly in lines like 'guts and minds, third eye divine,' which may obscure meaning.
  • The poem lacks a clear narrative progression, which can make it difficult for readers to follow the poet's intended message.

Imagery

The poem employs a mix of abstract and concrete imagery. Phrases like 'minds eye' and 'third eye divine' evoke a sense of mystical perception, while 'ears and cones of eyes' attempt to ground the poem in sensory experience. However, the imagery sometimes lacks cohesion, as the transition between abstract and concrete can be jarring.

Structure

The poem is free verse, with no consistent meter or rhyme scheme, though it uses internal rhyme and repetition to create rhythm. The line breaks and stanza organization are irregular, which reflects the poem's exploration of fluid and dynamic concepts but may also contribute to its lack of clarity.

Language & Craft

The diction is a mix of philosophical and everyday language, creating a tone that is both contemplative and conversational. The use of alliteration in 'flow of reason resonates' and 'felt by feet' adds musicality, though some word choices, like 'tik tok that's time,' may feel anachronistic or distracting.

Emotional Impact

The poem's emotional impact is moderate; it invites reflection on communication and perception but may not deeply move readers due to its abstract nature. The lack of a personal or emotional anchor might limit its resonance.
