The Living God

Sun was in full strength without showing any compassion,
Even the birds were searching for shelter,
And remembering the days of winter,
No one around her except fear and wind’s murmur,
The corner of clothes she was wrapping around fingers,
But all was weak in front of her daunted gesture,
Of hope and confidence to meet her little one,
There then come the whistle and she turns towards sound,
She was so fascinated to see the train and forget all her strain,
She alighted in the compartment that was also alone,
She gathered again the strength of hope,
She started swinging along with the train,
But alas, that stop almost everywhere,
There was no but only her fear,
But she was full mood to meet her dear,
Overpowered everything that was against again and again,
Finally she will reach to her destination,
Though not comfortably but with all satisfaction,
Now she took her baby in her bosom then,
Willingly her heart thanks to almighty to,
Touch her baby awesome,
That’s the love, devotion ad strength of her,
That’s why she is called living God, a mother.

About This Poem

After seeing the struggle of mothers here and there it forces me to think that whether God is only in temples, mosques, Gurudwaras or churches ? Its love, devotion, sacrifice and emotional attachment of mother which makes mother almost equal to God. I am certain to this that no one can replace the mother in one's life. So one should always respect her mother in all circumstances whether that was in favor or against.

Analysis Available

The poem 'The Living God' explores the perseverance and strength of a mother through a journey marked by challenges and fear. Despite some technical limitations, it captures the emotional depth of maternal love and devotion with sincerity.

Strengths

  • The poem effectively conveys the theme of maternal strength and devotion, particularly in lines like 'Of hope and confidence to meet her little one.'
  • The imagery of the mother 'wrapping around fingers' and 'swinging along with the train' evokes a sense of movement and determination.
  • The emotional climax is well captured in the final lines, emphasizing the mother's love and satisfaction upon reuniting with her child.

Areas for Improvement

  • The poem's structure is somewhat inconsistent, with irregular line lengths and a lack of clear stanza breaks, which can disrupt the flow (e.g., 'But alas, that stop almost everywhere').
  • Some phrases suffer from awkward syntax and grammatical errors, such as 'Willingly her heart thanks to almighty to,' which can confuse the reader.

Imagery

The poem uses simple yet effective imagery to depict the harshness of the environment and the mother's emotional journey. The 'sun in full strength' and 'birds searching for shelter' create a vivid picture of an oppressive setting. The train serves as a metaphor for the journey, both literal and emotional, with the mother's hope and fear intertwined as she 'swings along with the train.' The final image of her holding her baby 'in her bosom' is poignant and encapsulates the theme of maternal love.

Structure

The poem lacks a consistent structure, with no defined rhyme scheme or meter. The line breaks appear arbitrary, and the absence of stanza divisions makes it challenging to discern shifts in tone or focus. This irregularity can hinder the poem's readability and impact. Despite this, the narrative progresses logically, culminating in the emotional reunion.

Language & Craft

The diction is straightforward, aiming for emotional clarity rather than linguistic complexity. There is a mix of literal and figurative language, though the latter is less developed. The tone is earnest, reflecting the mother's determination and love. Instances of alliteration, such as 'fear and wind’s murmur,' add subtle musicality, though these are not consistently employed throughout.

Emotional Impact

The poem's emotional impact lies in its portrayal of a mother's unwavering love and determination. The reader can empathize with her struggles and triumphs, particularly in the climactic moment of reunion. While some technical aspects detract from the overall experience, the sincerity of the emotions conveyed remains compelling.
