Morphing

Inspirational / Motivational Poetry Human Written by Mirabel Amaechi ·
Image for Morphing

I tend to think of what I am
rather than what I am not
a hollow shell undefined
sitting there weak, it pondered
if a life could be differed from its dreams
which is definitely what I too wondered

Surely it was just the exact same
or perhaps a sweet cover up of lies
Thought its sugary coat did lose taste over time
A thing so tempeorary forced to cut ties
now tears me mercilessly and eats me alive

So what happens when we’re cut up
And left to rot?
Do we bleed or do we not?
Everything runs cold
Then my veins burn hot
But nobody cares or gives a single thought

Now I stand last within a grain of time so fragile
Clutching onto a final dream as I pray
For my scars to be healed and washed away
Facing towards a new light shed
I take a step, with freshly grown limbs

This analysis is provided as optional literary feedback. Community voting remains the primary ranking method.

Analysis Available

This poem explores themes of identity, existential reflection, and the tension between dreams and reality. It utilizes vivid imagery and emotional language to convey a sense of introspection and transformation, though it occasionally suffers from inconsistent diction and structural choices.

Strengths

  • The poem effectively uses metaphorical language, as seen in 'a hollow shell undefined' which evokes a strong sense of emptiness and introspection.
  • The imagery of 'clutching onto a final dream' and 'a grain of time so fragile' is poignant, capturing the delicate nature of hope and time.
  • The emotional depth is notable in lines like 'tears me mercilessly and eats me alive,' which powerfully convey inner turmoil.

Areas for Improvement

  • The poem's diction is inconsistent, with phrases like 'tempeorary' suggesting a lack of polish.
  • The structure lacks a clear pattern or form, which can make the poem feel disjointed and less impactful.

Imagery

The poem employs strong visual and sensory imagery, particularly in its use of metaphors such as 'a hollow shell' and 'a grain of time so fragile.' These images create a vivid sense of the speaker's internal state and the fragility of their existence. The contrast between 'veins burn hot' and 'everything runs cold' effectively conveys a sense of emotional conflict.

Structure

The poem does not adhere to a consistent rhyme scheme or meter, which can create a sense of unpredictability. Line breaks are used to emphasize certain moments, such as the transition from reflection to action in the final stanza. However, the lack of a clear structural framework may detract from the poem's overall cohesion.

Language & Craft

The poem's diction varies from evocative ('hollow shell') to less effective ('tempeorary'). The tone is introspective and somber, with a voice that conveys vulnerability and a desire for transformation. Instances of alliteration, such as 'sweet cover up of lies,' add musicality to the language.

Emotional Impact

The poem's emotional impact is significant, as it taps into universal themes of self-doubt and the search for meaning. The imagery and language evoke a strong sense of empathy and introspection, though the impact is occasionally diminished by inconsistent execution.
